So, I’m not much of a gardener. And our yard is not super conducive to veggie-growing since it is so shady. But I love garden fresh veggies in the summer, and the boys always love to help. I've had piddly little gardens before (tomatoes, peppers, cukes) with the help of my Gardening Wizard Friend Sarah (Hi Sarah!) and the assistance of "Vegetable Gardening for Dummies" (so not kidding about that). This year we will try a new area to grow the veggies (adding beans and ??) that is bigger. Only problem? It needs major work to get going. That's where the hubber comes in. I love you, honey!
Anyway, this is another of the new projects: berry bushes! The boys love fruits, and we are always scavenging the neighborhood blackberry patches come July. And with the price of EVERYTHING going up this year, I thought I would give this a whirl. The top picture is a blueberry bush that arrived today (from Gurney's Seed & Nursery Co. online). Evidently you need at least two different kinds of blueberry plants so the bushes will produce fruit. My second type should be arriving in a few days. Clearly we have a ways to go before the blueberries grace our table.
The second plant is one of two blackberry plants. These just came from Home Depot. I'm a little skeptical of their success (especially in MY hands!), but we'll see. These are also two different types of blackberries: Arapaho Thornless and Darrow.
So, we'll see how it goes. If all else fails, there IS always the Farmer's Market, right?

We can all be sweet and kind, yes? I am so thankful when my Wonder Readers share their positive thoughts with me!
