So. I've been thinking about re-doing our hall bathroom for quite some time now. It's OK, but its original cabinetry and mis-matched molding is perhaps less than eye candy. Of course, money is something of an issue, but since I'm still piecing ideas together, time is most definitely not of the essence. And since we can still do our business in there with no qualms (and aren't you glad you know that?), I don't feel too pressured. No pun intended.
So, I've been turning some ideas around in my head and grabbing inspiration from various sources in the meantime. And thanks to ebay, some of these ideas are coming to fruition. Because, as you know, I am nothing if not all about recycling and saving the earth. Um. Or, maybe just getting a good bargain. But walls can be a little tricky, you know? When we moved in, this bathroom had marbled-esque, striped burgandy and gold and green and blue wallpaper. Circa 1990.
And it wasn't horrible, and I wasn't desperate, so it stayed for a while until I couldn't stand it any longer. Being a do-it-yourself kind of girl, I knew that it would be a snap to take it down myself despite never having done this kind of thing before. Oh ho! Pride goeth before a fall! As it turns out, it was Vinyl Cling-On Until Death Wallpaper, and it took me hours to scrape off inches of the stuff. And then I had to re-wet it to take off the bottom layer. But eventually it came off, and I painted the walls a faux finish (which looking at it now appears very amateur) and all was well with the world. Until I realized that painting the walls does nothing to take away from the icky cream-colored laminate. Circa 1978. Which brings us to today and the fact that the Icky Cream Laminate (as well as the lighting, faux-finish painting, etc.) will be dying a slow death sometime in the near future. But, to return to the walls dilemma, I had the idea to take some pictures of an old bathroom and frame them and hang them in this bathroom. In a field behind my parents' house is an old, broken down concession stand that was used decades ago when car races were held in the field. As kids, we used to sneak down to that area and "explore" but I bet I haven't been back there in 25 years. Seeing as how I'm not a kid anymore as evidenced by certain birthdays in the past week. Anyway, I took Michael with me today (cute kids always get you out of trespassing charges) along with my camera. These are the shots I took that I think I will use in that bathroom. Is that too weird?? Using pictures of a bathroom, circa 1953? Because weird or not, that just might be what you are looking at soon when you take a tinkle in my potty.

I would have loved to trek down memory lane with you!!
