Last week I received a subpoena to act as a witness in a custody hearing for one of my students. The hearing was set for today, and I waivered with what to do with our kiddos. Our friends Kelly and Jason were also stopping back by over night on their way back to Ohio, and I really wanted the Matthews and Michael to have some play time together this morning. My mother-in-law offered to keep our boys, but preferred to do it at her house. Which is kind and generous (and wow, does she ever wear them slap out when they visit Nana Camp), but also 30 minutes away. So, I call Al at work last week to see if he had ideas about where to throw the kids (didn't want to ask my Mom who lives closer - who I'm sure would have done it - because they just got back from being out of town). And I'm not sure why this didn't occur to me before, but Al offered to take a day off of work and stay with the boys and spend time with Jason and Kelly. I guess I always figure he doesn't have very many days to take off. But this was the perfect solution as I had no idea how long I would be tied up in court. As it turns out, I drove 30 minutes there, waited around about 30 more minutes, and then found out that the parents had just worked at an agreement about my student. So, then I just turned around and drove the 30 minutes home. Which was nice in itself. Thirty minutes of quiet time without answering kid questions and enthusing over unusual vehicles that we pass. And then I got time to spend the rest of the day with my fellas and sweet hubbers. It was a real treat having him home today. He was helpful with the kids, gracious with me, and a perfect grill master.Monday, July 21, 2008

We can all be sweet and kind, yes? I am so thankful when my Wonder Readers share their positive thoughts with me!
