b. the racoon had a little too much party time with his raccoon buddies last night
c. the racoon is working on his tan
d. the raccoon picked this as the best place to get sick and die
Yeah. So the answer is evidently "d". I was gabbing on the phone this morning and happened to look out the bay window in the kitchen to see this raccoon right beside the slide. Even though we see - as you know - all kinds of wildlife around here, this did freak me out a bit. I let the kids run down there by themselves and play all the time since I can see them from the window. They did not, however, come in contact with the raccoon (which was, btw, still alive...but barely). I called Animal Control, and spiky haired AC dude took the raccoon with him to be euthenized (sp?). He said it was "symptomatic" of rabies (and that it has been a busy rabies season), but that it possibly was just old and sick. He also said that I really, really need to keep S.S.P.Q.o.K. (you know, Su Su Prettiness Queen of the Kitties) up to date with her rabies shots. Which I haven't because she doesn't tolerate shots well at all, and she is rarely outside. Come to find out, I might get a "citation" in the mail because she doesn't have a current license or rabies shot. Whoops. A citation, folks. Thank goodness that Michael Scott created the "Rabies Awareness 5K Fun Run"!
You actually let her be seen by AC??? Don't you know better!!!! BTW - our ktties have never been licensed but we did keep them up to date on rabies after the little black one escaped and had his own "Excellent Adventure". We don't know where he went but he was gone for 24 hours. With our woods nearby, you never know!!
